Today we're going to focus on research and reporting online. First up we'll do an exercise to find out how good you are at using the net to research a feature. Next we'll look at how to search online more effectively and how to assess and verify the material you find. Then we'll look at some different online search tools. AWJ - Verifying info found via social media When you're live blogging, you have to write quickly and publish as soon as you can. The aim is to work with the immediacy offered by the net, to give people a sense of an event unfolding in real time. The Online Journalism Review on reporting and research The Online Journalism Review wiki has a good intro to reporting and researching online. It's a bit old now but it's still useful as a start point. Later on in the course, we'll look at some of the newer reporting methods they talk about - open source reporting, distributed reporting - both of which are now often described as crowdsourcing. In the meantime, this has some useful general tips on reporting and a couple of good links.
